Super Falcons star, Peace Ogebe, has expressed deep anguish over the continued wave of deadly attacks in her home state of Benue, revealing that the violence has left her unable to sleep. Taking to social media, the Nigerian midfielder decried the persistent killings, particularly in the Idoma-speaking areas of Otukpo, where recent raids have left scores dead and many more displaced. “I am just having sleepless nights these days because of what is happening in Benue State.
Like seriously, I can’t just sleep. Why all the killing? What is their aim?” Ogebe wrote. “Why is the government quiet over these killings? Is it that they don’t know what to do, or they just intentionally want to be mute?” Her emotional outburst comes in the wake of fresh attacks on villages in Otukpo and Otobi-Akpa in Otukpo Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly stormed communities, burning homes, displacing families, and leaving multiple casualties in their wake.
The violence is the latest in a string of attacks that have rocked Benue in recent weeks. Earlier in April, no fewer than 15 people were reportedly killed in similar raids targeting farming communities. Survivors recounted terrifying scenes of armed herdsmen invading their villages at night and opening fire indiscriminately on residents.
Ogebe’s outcry adds to growing frustration among citizens and public figures who have criticized what they see as the federal government’s slow or muted response to the ongoing violence in Benue. Despite repeated assurances from local authorities, the attacks continue to escalate, leaving many communities gripped by fear and insecurity..
