Tariffs, Slowing Growth, and Higher Inflation: What to Look for in Powell’s Speech

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is set to speak Wednesday afternoon in his second public appearance since President Donald Trump unveiled sweeping tariffs on U.S. imports on April 2. Powell will deliver prepared remarks on the economy at 1:30 p.m. Eastern at the Economic Club of Chicago, followed by a moderated discussion. Trump introduced a 90-day suspension on April 9 for some trading partners, and hinted this past weekend at exemptions for select technologies.
