April 25, (THEWILL) – Nigerian music stars, Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Asake, have been nominated in the Favourite Afrobeats Artist category for the 51st edition of the American Music Awards (AMAs). South Africa’s Tyla also received a nomination in the same category. The Favourite Afrobeats Artist category was first introduced in 2022, with Wizkid making history as the first winner.
The award ceremony is scheduled for May 26, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, United States. This year’s award ceremony will be hosted by Hollywood actress and singer, Jennifer Lopez, who will also be performing at the event. The ceremony would be aired live, making it accessible to fans worldwide.
American Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, leads with ten nominations, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Post Malone earned eight nominations, while Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey received seven each. Taylor Swift, who holds the record for most AMAs wins, earned six nominations this year.
