Forty-one-year-old Darren Crawford, of Croft Street, Galashiels, was jailed for a total of 10 months after pleading guilty to three offences. He pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of tools from an insecure vehicle parked in Abbotsford Road on September 8 and on the same day entered another vehicle in the same road and stole alcohol, clothing and money. Crawford pleaded guilty to stealing a laptop from a vehicle in Birk's View on June 19.
Co-accused William Tait, 44, of Fletcher Court, Selkirk, received sentences totalling 18 months after admitting offences spread over three complaints. He received 10 months of jail time for being found in houses in Netherbank and Kingsknowes on June 9 in circumstances which inferred he intended to commit theft, theft from a car in Tweed Road and stealing a quantity of money from a vehicle in Birk's View on June 19. Tait received a sentence of eight months for bail breaches and theft by shoplifting offences, making it a total of 18 months.
But this was reduced by 99 days as he had already been subject to an electronic monitoring order. Thirty-six-year-old Alex Russell, of Carlin Court, Tweedbank, pleaded guilty on the same complaint as Crawford and Tait to four offences including breaking into a house in Abbotsford Road, Galashiels, on September 8 and stealing a quantity of money. He had sentence deferred until May 12 for background reports and was remanded in custody.
