Tickets for the ‘Purple Rain’ musical go on sale May 9

Single tickets for the much-anticipated stage adaptation of “Purple Rain” will go on sale at 10 a.m. May 9 via hennepinarts.

Hennepin Arts did not announce ticket prices.Producer Orin Wolf announced the production in January 2024, initially with a spring 2025 world premiere set for the State. That October, the producer pushed the start date to later this year, to “allow for more time for creative development.

” It’s slated to hit Broadway after its local run.Robert “Bobby Z.” Rivkin, drummer of the Revolution, and New Power Generation keyboardist and onetime musical director Morris Hayes are advising producers on the production, which features a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize-finalist and MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (“Appropriate”), based on the original screenplay by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn.

Tony Award-nominee Lileana Blain-Cruz (“The Skin of Our Teeth”) will direct.Considered semi-autobiographical and shot at First Avenue and in and around Minneapolis, “Purple Rain” the film grossed $70.3 million worldwide against its $7.

2 million budget and won an Oscar for best original song score.
