RIO VISTA — Two arrests were made and two loaded firearms were located following a traffic stop Monday on Highway 12 near Gardiner Way. "One was a ghost gun, and the other firearm had the serial number removed," the Rio Vista Police Department said in a statement. Dominique Spencer, 33, and Michael Sanders, 35 were arrested.
Spencer and Sanders were booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of 16 felony counts: two counts apiece for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle; two counts of carrying a loaded concealed weapon; two counts of removing or altering serial numbers on a gun; two counts of having an undetectable gun; two counts of carrying a concealed weapon in a public place; two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm; two counts of being a felon in possession of ammunition; and two counts of manufacturing or sale of a large-capacity magazine, the jail custody log states. Spencer also was booked on suspicion of bringing a controlled substance into the jail. Bail was set at $185,000.
Bail was set at $150,000 for Sanders, the custody log states. Officer Katie Christensen made the stop because the vehicle did not have a front license plate. When the driver stepped out of the car, apparently to look in the trunk for his car registration, she observed a bulge in his waistband.
It proved to be an empty gun holster, the police reported. Christensen then had her K-9 dog, Brigg, do a search of the vehicle. Trained to detect explosives and firearms, the dog hit on the guns, the department reported.
"One of the individuals admitted to the officers they are both gang members," the department stated. However, there were no gang-related allegations listed in the booking record..
