The China Film Festival (April 26–27) is the first initiative rolled out in Punjab, the hub of cinemas in Pakistan in collaboration with the Chinese Consulate Lahore, the Institute of International Relations & Media Research, the China National Film Administration, the China Film Archive, and the Information & Culture Department, Government of Punjab, Gwadar Pro reported on Sunday. Speaking at the China Film Festival’s launch ceremony, Chinese Consul General in Lahore Zhao Shiren said that the China Film Festival in Lahore comes at the right time and at the right venue.

Like food and language, he added, film, through the universal language of cinema has a unique power and strong appeal to bridge gaps, break barriers, and bring hearts together, fostering mutual understanding and dialogue among people by connecting cultures and civilizations. The Consulate selected five Chinese films in the original Chinese language with English subtitles to entertain Lahorites and Punjabis: The Wandering Earth and its sequel. The Battle of Lake Changjin, a historical war movie related to the Korean Peninsula; My People, My Country, a Chinese anthology film chronicling pivotal historical moments from 1949 to 2019; and Great Love Dunhuang, a biographical drama depicting the extraordinary life of a female archaeologist who preserved the Mogao Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northwest China.
