Manchester United’s loss against Wolves is demoralising but Ruben Amorim can argue that he got what he wanted from the game and then some. Not only was he able to rest the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot from the start, the performance was also encouraging. Rasmus Hojlund struggled again to finish chances but the Man Utd manager saw a lot of promise in debutant Tyler Fredricson.

Fredricson shone on debut and earned praise from Harry Maguire and more, but it was another teenage prodigy who’s probably become Amorim’s bonafide first-team player now. That includes fringe players and youth players, three of whom played against Wolves.

Fredricson started with Harry Amass, while Chido Obi came off the bench to replace a struggling Rasmus Hojlund. While Obi looked good, it’s hard to look bad in comparison to current version of Hojlund. However, the same can’t be said for Amass.

Amass was voted man of the match against Wolves for his contribution in both boxes as he played like the Luke Shaw who thrilled everyone with his breakout at Southampton. MUTV pundit Danny Webber had pure praise for the youngster after the game. He said: “”And I’ve watched Harry Amass, and after a few appearances, start to express himself a little bit more, get into the game, go forward, have the ball at his feet and enjoy himself.

” Harry Amass is saving Man Utd millions in the marketPatrick Dorgu was an emergency signing in January because United literally had zero left wing-backs in the senior setup. Dorgu has been a breath of fresh air but there was no way Amorim was going to go into next season with only Dorgu as his natural wing-back on the left. Diego Leon is arriving but expectations should be tempered with him, which is why Amass might just have saved United millions in the market.

The club could have gone for another left wing-back to beef up their ranks behind Dorgu but with Amass’ breakout and Leon’s arrival, they have the perfect trifecta – a first-choice, an exciting backup, a raw but talented third-choice. In the process, he might have also opened the doors for more youth products to break into the first team if Amorim can start trusting them more, since nobody has let him down so far. Amass’ breakout was long overdue but when it arrived, it has been everything that was promised and then some.
