Varun Dhawan, who debuted with Karan Johar's 2012 film Student of the Year, celebrates his birthday today. Son of filmmaker David Dhawan, he's among India's highest-paid actors. Happy Birthday Varun Dhawan: The Badrinath Ki Dulhania actor, who made his acting debut with Karan Johar’s 2012 film, Student of the Year, alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, turned a year older today.
Counted amongst one of India’s highest-paid actors, Dhawan has also been featured in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list in the 2010s. David Dhawan’s son, who began his career as an assistant director to Karan Johar in the 2010 film My Name Is Khan, has already been part of 11 consecutive box-office successes. He is best known for his on-screen roles in films such as Main Tera Hero, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Dilwale, Dishoom, Judwaa 2, ABCD 2, Sui Dhaaga (2018), among others.

Directed by Kalees, the actor played the role of Baby John/DCP Satya Verma in the movie which is a remake of the 2016 released Tamil film Theri, directed by Atlee. For the movie, Dhawan even channelled the iconic mannerisms of superstar Rajinikanth for embracing the larger-than-life cinema style of South India.
Munjya: Varun Dhawan made a cameo appearance in the movie starring Sharvari, Abhay Verma, Sathyaraj and Mona Singh in key roles. Dhawan reprised his role as ‘Bhaskar’ from his 2022 released film, Bhediya in the comedy horror film, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. Stree 2: Varun Dhawan had a special appearance in his same role as ‘Bhaskar/ Bhediya’ in the the third installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, the movie featured Dhawan helping Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor fight against the Sarkata. At the end, the Student of the Year also appeared in a song, alongside the lead stars. Bawaal: A romantic drama starring Varun Dhawan alongside Janhvi Kapoor, in the role of an image-conscious narcissist, who teaches history at a school in Lucknow.
The film was released on Prime Video in 2023. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani: Varun Dhawan had another cameo appearance in the 2023 released movie starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. Dhawan appeared in the song Heart Throb.
Citadel: Honey Bunny: Dhawan also appeared in a 2023-2024 Amazon Prime series titled as Citadel: Honey Bunny. Directed by Raj & DK, it is an Indian spin-off of the American spy thriller series, also on Amazon Prime Video. Varun Dhawan’s Upcoming Projects Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari: Shashank Khaitan’s directorial family romance movie will star Dhawan in the titular role of Sunny.
The movie that will be produced under the banner of Dharma Productions is expected to release on September 12. The film also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Rohit Saraf, Sanya Malhotra, Abhinav Sharma, Manish Paul and Akshay Oberoi among others in lead roles. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai: Varun Dhawan will share the screen space alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in the David Dhawan directorial.
The movie also stars Maniesh Paul, Kubbra Sait, Jimmy Shergill, Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Chunky Pandey, and Rohit Saraf. Produced under the banner of Tips Films Pvt. Ltd.
, it is expected for a released on October 2. Border 2: Directed by Anurag Singh, the movie will hit the theatres on January 23, 2026. Besides Dhawan, it also stars Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in key roles.
