Vigo County schools may get funding boost without raising taxes, as State Sen. Goode's bill heads to governor.

Big news for the students and educators in Vigo County—their schools may soon receive a funding boost without putting additional burden on property owners. State Sen. Greg Goode's legislation, aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in school funding management, has just sailed through and is on its way to the governor's desk.

Specifically crafted for Vigo County, House Enrolled Act 1515 allows the local school corporation to access resources more readily to quickly address educational needs. Goode, a Terre Haute Republican, articulated his intent "to help local officials and the district come together to make much-needed improvements within our schools without raising property taxes," according to a statement acquired by Indiana Senate Republicans. This initiative mirrors Senate Bill 382, which Goode had earlier introduced and successfully passed in the Senate.

The proposed oversight board would involve a group of individuals appointed by local government entities and representatives from the business sector. This structure is envisioned to provide a balanced and well-rounded approach to managing the allocated funds.Sen.

Goode, himself a product of Terre Haute's public school system, expressed both pride and optimism in strengthening his community through education. "I am excited to see the work that could be done within our community thanks to the funding options this legislation provides," Goode told Indiana Senate Republicans. The local government and business leaders have also been credited for their role in advancing the bill.
