At a pre-release event in Hyderabad for Suriya’s upcoming film Retro, Vijay Deverakonda made headlines with his fiery comments. Attending as the guest of honour, the actor stirred up the crowd with an intense response during a light-hearted Q&A.
When host Suma asked him which historical figure he’d like to meet if he could travel back in time, Vijay didn’t hold back. He said he’d like to confront the British—and not with words, but with a couple of slaps. Referring to his recent viewing of Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal and Akshaye Khanna, he said the film deeply affected him and left him angry.
He said, “I want to meet the British and give them two tight slaps. I recently watched Chhaava, and it enraged me. I’d probably take the opportunity to give Aurangzeb two to three tight slaps also.
I want to meet so many others like that, just to hit them. Right now, it’s all I can think of." After Vijay’s answer, Suriya was asked the same question and replied that he doesn’t really miss anyone from the past, so he wouldn’t know who to go back in time for.
Later, Vijay was asked which actress he’d like to work with if he could go back in time. Instead of picking Sridevi, Ramya Krishnan, or Vijayashanti, he chose Simran and Sonali Bendre. He also mentioned Jyotika but quickly added that he’s hesitant to say it since she’s married to Suriya.
During the same interaction, Vijay also spoke of the Pahalgam terror attack. He stressed on the importance of education in fighting radicalisation, saying that many terrorists are brainwashed. Speaking in both Telugu and English, he said, “The solution to what is happening in Kashmir is also to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don’t get brainwashed.
What will they achieve? Kashmir belongs to India, and Kashmiris are ours. Two years ago, I shot for Kushi in Kashmir. I have such good memories with them (the locals).
