The fate of the discovery was made at one of two 'treasure trove inquests' held in Truro – the other being a Bronze Age ring described as "the first of its kind to be found in Cornwall." In the first, Maurice Thomas discovered the 14 Viking objects, including jewellery, three inches below the surface between February and April 2020, the inquest heard. Assistant coroner for Cornwall Guy Davies said the objects, which included rings and bracelet fragments, were probably from the Viking period.
