A “violent wedge tornado” tore across Ashby, western Nebraska, on Sunday, April 27. Video from a livestream by storm chaser John McKinney shows dramatic clouds forming into what the source calls an “elephant trunk” funnel as it touches down in the Nebraska panhandle. Minutes later, as the storm gathers strength, McKinney says a “violent wedge tornado” is sweeping directly towards him.
“Here it comes, right there, it’s wedging out right in front of us. We have a wedge tornado,” the storm chaser can be heard saying in the footage. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for the area on Sunday, advising the public it was a “life threatening situation” and they should “seek shelter now.
