KL Rahul will face Lucknow Super Giants for the first time since joining Delhi Capitals after being released last year. Delhi Capitals’ arrival in Lucknow for their next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 fixture will be a sort of homecoming for their star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul. Rahul returns to his old stomping ground where he once represented the Lucknow Super Giants.
Rahul was released by LSG after the franchise failed to qualify last season and at the IPL mega auction, he was signed by DC . DC have shared a clip of Rahul making his way into the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Rahul, sporting DC’s training kit, descended the stadium’s stairs with his cricket gear slung over shoulders.
Upon reaching the field, Rahul set his equipment aside and bent down to pay his obeisance to the turf. Rahul led LSG from the team’s debut season in 2022 until 2024. He helped the side make the playoff stage in the first two campaigns before finishing seventh last year.
During the last season, after a big defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in a league game, Rahul was seen having an animated chat with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka which gave rise to speculations of a fallout in their relationship. Rahul has been in fine form for the DC this IPL season. He has scored 266 runs in six matches, batting with a 53.
20 average and a 158.33 strike rate. He has so far struck two half-centuries and become a key addition to DC’s batting line-up.
Rahul missed the previous clash against LSG in Visakhapatnam, which his current team won narrowly by a wicket in thrilling fashion. Earlier this month, Rahul had the opportunity to deliver a match-winning performance for the DC in another one of his former stomping grounds. He scored an unbeaten 93 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 8.
After the match, Rahul revealed how he was brimming with confidence because the venue had always been a home to him. “This is my ground, this is my home. I know this better than anybody else," he said in the post-match interview.
“I knew what my shots are. Just wanted to get off to a good start, be aggressive initially and assess it from there. If I was trying to hit a big six, I knew what pockets to target," he added.
