FixTheCountry convener Oliver Barker-Vormawor has expressed worry about the system of democracy the country practices, stating that it appears to favour those in high offices at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaian. He claimed that the Chief justice’s daughter travels on state funds and receive a whopping 10, 000 dollars as per diem. He stated that such actions are worrying and should not be given a space in our country if we want to move forward as a people.
According to him, we can not a build a country when there is a wide inequality between those at the top and the ordinary Ghanaian. Taking to his Facebook page, Oliver Barker-Vormawor wrote “If the Chief Justice’s daughter can travel on state funds and receive 10,000 dollars as per diem. For being the chief justice’s daughter.
What kind of Republic have we built? Where is the Justice in the chief?” His comments are in reaction to the petitions calling for the removal of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo. President John Mahama has begun consultations with the Council of State following the submission of three petitions seeking the removal of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo. A statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications, confirmed that the President had forwarded the petitions to the Council of State in line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the process for removing a Chief Justice.
Although details of the petitions remain undisclosed, this development marks the beginning of a formal constitutional process that could potentially lead to significant changes within Ghana’s judiciary. Source link https://www.facebook.
