These speculations seemed to have surfaced as Michael Cole demanded Gunther’s release following The Ring General’s attack on Cole and his commentary partner Pat McAfee on this week’s Raw.Could Gunther get fired from WWE Raw and move to SmackDown?At the time of this article’s composition, no official statement has been released either by WWE or Gunther about his move to SmackDown from Raw.

However, it’s possible, given that he just lost his belt to Jey Uso on Night 1 of WrestleMania 41. This loss marked the end of Gunther’s title run of 259 days. If he moves to SmackDown, it will make him available for new feuds and the pursuit of new titles.

It’s possible that the events that unfolded on Monday Night Raw earlier this week are setting up the stage for his transfer. Still angry about his loss on WrestleMania 41, Gunther, whose legal name is Walter Hahn, attacked Cole, prompting McAfee, a former NFL punter, to come to the defense of his partner. The WWE officials arrived to interfere, but Gunther pushed through them and put MCAfee in a chokehold from behind.

McAfee’s ESPN producers attempted to leap over the barricade, hoping to rescue him, but they were prevented from doing so by the security. Eventually, Gunther left on his own but after rendering the other man unconscious. Since then, Cole has spoken to the WWE Raw General Manager, Adam Pearce and asked him to fire Gunther.

Gunther, 37, is originally from Vienna, Austria. He has previously wrestled for promotions such as Pro Wrestling ZERO1-MAX, Westside Xtreme Wrestling, and Revolution Pro Wrestling. He joined WWE’s NXT brand in 2019 before making his debut on SmackDown in 2022.
