United States Vice President JD Vance arrived in India along with his wife Usha Vance and three kids, on Monday. Vance is visiting India for the first time after US President Donald Trump declared tariff imposition on 60 countries. The family will stay in India till April 24.

His wife Usha Chilukuri Vance has been making headlines, specially for her connect to India's Andhra Pradesh. Usha is a judicial clerk and trial lawyer. Who is Usha Vance? BBC has reported that Usha Vance is a graduate in BA History from Yale University and was born and raised in California's San Diego.



She was also a Gates Scholar at Cambridge University. Usha's grandfather and father taught and studied at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT. The family moved from Andhra Pradesh to the United States in 1970s.

Usha's mother is a molecular biologist and her father is a mechanical engineer. Her sister is also a mechanical engineer. Her family was from Vadduru village in Andhra Pradesh.

Usha was a law clerk to US Chief Justice John Roberts in 2015. Later, she became an attorney at US law firm Munger, Tolles and Olson LLP. How and when did Usha meet Vance? BBC also reported that Usha first met Vance in 2010 while she was a student at Yale Law School.

The two later joined a discussion group on "social decline in White America". In his 2016 memoir Hillbilly Elegy, JD Vance wrote that he "fell hard" for wife Usha at Yale and said that she was a "genetic anomaly" due to her so many ideal qualities. The book also said that Vance told Usha that he was in love with her - only after one date.
