Rawalpindi - Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Babar Sarfraz Alpa here on Wednesday said that Women and Child Protection Centres had been set up in all police stations of the five districts of Rawalpindi division. In a statement, the RPO said that following the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Rawalpindi division police set up the centres for the protection of women and children in the districts of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jehlum, Chakwal and Murree. The centres will help and guide women and children for registration of criminal cases, legal support, and counselling regarding the family issues.
The facilitation centres will provide secure and respectful environment to women and children in the police stations, the RPO said. Only women police officers will be posted in the centres to investigate the cases related to women and children. RPO Alpa further said that the protection centres would also offer alternative dispute resolution platform where the issue could be resolved peacefully through reconciliations.
Rape, murder suspect buried under ASP’s supervision The Women and Child Protection Centre will work under direct supervision of the area Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPO) and the woman police officer will be responsible for the day to day matters. This is a practical step not only towards protection of women and children but also towards increasing confidence building between the police and public, the RPO said. Meanwhile, Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Amir Khattak said that the Punjab government was going to launch Bewa Card and Ration Card.
For this purpose, the government restarted on Wednesday the survey for Punjab Socio-Economic Registry (PSER). The PSER survey teams will visit all areas of Punjab time to time. The area residents will be intimated before the visit of the survey teams, the commissioner said.
He appealed to the people to cooperate with the survey teams to make the PSER survey a success and to ensure that all deserving people gain full support from the programme. The meeting, this regard, was held in the commissioner office. The meeting was attended by Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema, Additional Commissioner Coordination Syed Nazarat Ali, Director Social Welfare Shahid Rana, and other officers of the district administration.

To get registered with the survey successfully, original national identity cards and birth certificates of the children should be readily available when the survey team visits the area.
