The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) initially planned to start construction work by the end of March and then moved it to April.“There has been some adjustments dun sa (in our) schedule namin kasi (because) we are also preparing for the ASEAN meeting,” said DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan in an interview with Super Radyo DZBB on Monday, April 14.“I think makakapagsimula nalang kami siguro after the elections na para ‘di maabala ‘yung mga tao.
”(There has been adjustments with our schedule because we are also preparing for the ASEAN meeting. I think we can start after the elections so that this would not disturb the people.)Bonoan said that they will prioritize finishing work — targeting by yearend — on the section from Pasay to Guadalupe.
This will be the primary route taken by visitors participating in the ASEAN Summit, which will be hosted by the Philippines in 2026.Meetings of the ASEAN Summit will be held all over the country, although most will be set in Metro Manila.The department will start with rehabilitating the southbound busway lane.
“Lane by lane lang ito para hindi masyadong ma-disturb ang traffic (This will only be done lane by lane so that traffic flow would not be as disturbed),” the secretary said, adding that the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) would be in charge of traffic flow while construction is ongoing.In a previous interview, Bonoan said that the EDSA bus carousel will be sharing lanes with private vehicles while construction on the dedicated bus lane is ongoing.Must Read Carousel buses to share available lanes during EDSA rehab The whole rehabilitation process is expected to be completed in two years, with work done 24/7.
“In the first few days of [the] start of construction, we will look at how the flow of traffic is going and there may be some adjustments if we find that they are needed but [MMDA] will be the ones responsible for the management of traffic,” Bonoan said in mixed English and Filipino. – Rappler.com.
