Lauds Mutfwang’s leadership, urges members to remain steadfastThe Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Chris Hassan, has maintained that the party remains firmly rooted in public trust and local resilience, despite the recent high-profile defections from the PDP in Delta State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).Speaking at a press conference in Jos on Thursday, Hassan called on party members across the state to stand firm, describing the defections as part and parcel of Nigeria’s political landscape.“Defections are not a new phenomenon in party politics of this kind,” he said.
“But we remain confident that the PDP’s legitimacy and strength in Plateau are built on the enduring struggles and convictions of our people.”The press briefing followed a dramatic political shift on Wednesday, which saw Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire Delta State PDP structure join the APC, a development that has reverberated throughout national politics.Unfazed, Hassan praised Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for what he described as “exceptional governance and meaningful development,” crediting his administration with fostering fairness, justice, and progress.
“We sincerely appreciate the continued support from our loyal members and the broader Plateau public, who have consistently placed their trust in us,” he said. “We are in control, and we believe the future still holds much promise.”Turning his attention to the recent spate of violence in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas, Hassan condemned the attacks, which have been attributed to suspected Fulani militia, and commended the rapid response of both Governor Mutfwang and security operatives.
He endorsed the governor’s push for enhanced community-level security measures, describing it as a forward-thinking and locally attuned response to insecurity.“This grassroots model is a pragmatic and inclusive strategy that acknowledges the specific security dynamics of each area,” Hassan noted. “Our governor has once more proven himself as a leader who genuinely cares for and defends his people.
”He closed his remarks with a call to unity and perseverance.“The PDP remains the party of the people, for the people. Together, we will continue to strive toward a better and stronger Plateau,” Hassan declared.
