A village has announced plans to reach net zero emissions by 2040. Hethersett Parish Council's Climate Emergency Response Team (CERT), in partnership with Opergy Net Zero, has developed an action plan to achieve this goal. The plan, which was created through collaboration and workshops, aims to reduce carbon emissions, enhance biodiversity, and improve residents' wellbeing.

It provides a roadmap for the community to reduce emissions and improve the quality of life in Hethersett. It also assesses the local carbon dioxide emissions baseline and provides a strategic roadmap to net zero emissions by 2040, with clear milestones and actions. Councillor Jenny Walpole, chair of the Climate Emergency Response Team, said: "This plan is a significant step forward in our commitment to address climate change and protect the future of Hethersett.

"By working with Opergy Net Zero, we are creating a clear path that not only meets our carbon reduction targets but also improves the quality of life for our community. "The journey to net zero will be a collective effort, and we look forward to engaging residents and local businesses in these important initiatives." The plan will be implemented in phases over the coming years, with regular updates and opportunities for community involvement.

The parish council will also explore funding options and partnerships to ensure the successful execution of the plan. CERT is looking for volunteers to join the team and support the efforts in making a more sustainable Hethersett. Volunteers will have the opportunity to contribute their skills and ideas in many areas such as energy efficiency, community outreach, and biodiversity projects.
