NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will step to the podium in Green Bay on Thursday night and fill in that blank on Day One of the draft. Some Saints' fans will love the pick.

Some will hate it. Regardless of whose name Goodell calls, it’ll be a name that will fill one of the many holes on the roster. Saints’ general manager Mickey Loomis knows it’s a pick they need to get right.

"If we're picking in the top 10, we're looking for somebody that, man, we're gonna count on this guy for the next 8 to 10 years,” Loomis said Wednesday in his pre-draft media session. “And he's going to fill that spot and we're not going to have to worry about it. For me, that's a goal.

" There are plenty options available, which was quite evident by the various responses from local media members when asked to give their prediction on who the Saints will take. We had 32 media members respond to our poll asking who they thought the Saints would pick with their No 9 pick. We got 13 different answers.

You name the position and a media member likely mentioned it, another indication of the many needs first-year head coach Kellen Moore’s team has. Penn State tight end Tyler Warren got the most votes, receiving 8 of the 32 votes. Warren would be just the second ever tight end selected in the first round by the Saints.

The only other time the Saints picked a tight end with a first round pick was Irv Smith (Notre Dame) in 1993. The other popular choice by local media members was Texas offensive lineman Kelvin Banks. He received six votes.

If Banks is the choice, it would be the second consecutive year the Saints used their first round pick on a tackle. Last season, the Saints elected Taliese Fuaga from Oregon State with the 14th overall pick. Outside of Warren and Banks, no other player got more than two votes.
