Chris Brown Charged Over London Nightclub Incident

US singer Chris Brown has been charged with GBH with intent, the Met Police has said. The charge is in connection with an alleged incident at a bar in central London on 19 February 2023.

The 36-year-old was detained in the early hours of Thursday, at a hotel in Manchester. Police said he is being held in custody and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday. The legal action is brought under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, which relates to grievous bodily harm with intent.

Legal Proceedings Underway

We have now authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with assault by beating.‘Adele Kelly, deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, said: ‘We have decided that there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that a prosecution is in the public interest. She added that criminal proceedings were ongoing and his right to a fair trial must be respected. The R&B singer is reported to have landed in Manchester on a private jet on Wednesday afternoon. He's currently on tour and has dates lined up this June and July in cities around the UK.
