Seven shows canceled by Hulu as fans say it's 'biggest tragedy of our time'

Several platforms including Netflix , Peacock and Prime Video have announced the cancellation of some popular shows this year, leaving fans disappointed. While a reason isn't always given, low viewership and ratings are often blamed for shows coming to an end - and occasionally money concerns are at play too. Hulu is also canceling some programs during the 2025-2026 season, including Solar Opposites which is ending after six seasons.

The dreama series, based on Charmaine Wilkerson's novel of the same name, follows two siblings who uncover mysteries about their family's past through a series of audio messages their mother left them upon her death. Despite a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, Black Cake, which won multiple NAACP Image Awards and was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award, won't be returning to our screens. Hulu didn't give a reason for canceling the show show, which was produced by Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions.

The announcement was made in February, just months after the show wrapped its eight-episode first season.

Natasha Rothwell, the show's creator, expressed her disappointment in an Instagram post, saying "This is hard to comprehend," while thanking the cast, crew and writers. One more Hulu show that won't be returning to our screens is This Fool, which began streaming in the summer of 2022 and ran for two seasons. The series follows Julio, a drug counselor, as he navigates life in South Central while trying to help his community, overcome his family issues, and deal with the challenges of his profession.

Fans took to Reddit to share their thoughts after the cancelation which one described as "very disappointing." Another said, "This show was so goooooooooood. I guess we have bad tastes or something but I liked this so much more than 99 percent of the swill on hulu :'(.

The decision not to continue the series was reportedly backed by the family and while some fans agree with the cancelation, others aren't too happy about it. One posted on Reddit , "How did this get three seasons.

One more show that won't be making a comeback is UnPrisoned, which premiered on Hulu in March 2023 and ran for two seasons. The plot follows Paige Alexander as she navigates the complexities of reintegrating her father, Edwin, into her life after his 17-year prison sentence for drug dealing.

By exploring the challenges and emotional turmoil of both Paige and Edwin, the series blends comedy and drama. In September, star Kerry Washington announced that Hulu had canceled the series, writing on Instagram, "Ladies & Gents, that is a wrap on Unprisoned. This beautiful show that we poured so much of our hearts and souls into is unfortunately not coming back for a Season 3.
