A Japanese speedrunner has managed to roll credits on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild before its June 5, 2025, release. The Zelda series is no stranger to the weird and wacky world of speedrunning. In fact, players from around the world have been competing for the best times since the early 2000s, when fans began to take on the likes of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask.
Fast forward to 2017, and Zelda fans finally had a new game that was ripe for some speedy completion times – Breath of the Wild. The open-world nature of BotW makes it the perfect Zelda game to break apart. This is especially true given that skilled players can head over to Hyrule Castle and kill Ganon from the very beginning.
However, it’s not every day that a speedrunner gets to beat a game a month before it’s even out. Speedrunner beats BotW on Switch 2 before release Well, that’s exactly what one Japanese speedrunner did when they completed the Switch 2 version of BotW at a Switch 2 hands-on event in Tokyo. As reported by Nintendo Insider , Ikaboze used an autosave situated outside Hyrule Castle.
There was no time for marvelling at the upgraded graphics, as the speedrunner quickly ditched all his equipment before sprinting through the castle and towards Ganon’s lair. The speedrunner can be seen using movement-enhancing techniques, which enabled him to cut down his traversal time. However, the battles with Calamity Ganon and his Dark Beast form are the most impressive, with the player taking them down in record time.
Ikaboze rolled credits during the 20-minute time limit, securing the crown as the first person to beat the Switch 2 version of Breath of the Wild before it’s even out.
