Jake and Elwood are back! On Tuesday, the family of The Blues Brothers ‘ Dan Aykroyd and the late Judy Belushi-Pisano‘s estate announced they are releasing a graphic novel inspired by the group, called The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake , on Oct. 7. Stella Aykroyd, Luke Pisano, and James Werner co-wrote the book, which is considered a “love letter and a sequel to the original Blues Brothers film,” according to the press release.
Brazilian artist Felipe Sobriero will illustrate the book and Z2 will be the publisher. (The book is on presale now.) “We have put years of passion into this to produce something with heart and authenticity.

Dan Aykroyd, who was in the Blues Brothers with John Belushi, is overseeing the writing of the book and penned its foreword, and it seems to be the first of what the estate’s team expects will be a new foray into television, film, live events, and music from the Blues Brothers. “This book is a continuation of that labor of love. This book is dedicated to my mother, Judy Belushi Pisano — the widow of John Belushi and the fierce, loving steward of the Blues Brothers legacy for over 40 years.” Dan Aykroyd’s daughter Stella said in the release that the Brothers’ stories “have always been perfectly suited for the comic strip,” adding, “Our development process was guided and inspired by the stories and real life occurrences from the lives of Judy, John, and Dan and their process of conception of the Blues Brothers and using it not only for easter eggs but for plot points.
