Donald Trump Calls Indian Strikes on Pakistan 'A Shame', Urges Restraint

Former US President Donald Trump strongly criticized India's military operation against Pakistan, calling the strikes "a shame" and expressing concern over rising tensions in the region. His remarks came shortly after India confirmed launching missile strikes on nine locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, claiming the targets were terror infrastructure—not civilian or military sites.

India's justification for the action lies in the recent terror attack in Kashmir that killed 36 people, mostly Indian tourists. Delhi blames militant groups allegedly supported by Islamabad for orchestrating the assault, while Pakistan has firmly denied any involvement and vowed retaliation.

Pakistan responded by claiming to have shot down five Indian Air Force jets and one drone, including advanced Rafale aircraft. However, Indian authorities have not confirmed any losses, and the claims remain unverified by independent sources like CNN.

According to Pakistan, India's strikes killed eight people, including children, and injured 35. The Indian Army, in turn, reported that three civilians in Indian-administered Kashmir died in shelling from the Pakistani side.

Trump's comments come amid growing concern from the international community. The US State Department said it is "closely monitoring developments" and emphasized the need for both nations to act with restraint. The United Nations also called for calm, warning that any further military action could spiral into a larger crisis.

The Kashmir dispute, long at the heart of India-Pakistan tensions, remains unresolved. While the two countries have fought three wars over the region since the Partition of British India, none have escalated to full-scale conflict since 1999. However, incidents like this highlight how quickly the situation can deteriorate—especially with both sides being nuclear-armed.
