The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo North Senatorial District has formally endorsed Senator Adams Oshiomhole for a second term in the Nigerian Senate, bolstering his political stature ahead of the 2027 general elections. The endorsement was announced during a strategic caucus meeting held in Iyamho, Oshiomhole’s hometown, which followed a security summit convened by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo. While the summit focused on growing security concerns in the region, the subsequent caucus session shifted attention to the party’s internal strategy and future representation.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Media Assistant to the Minister of Regional Development, the party’s position was made clear: “The endorsement effectively closes the door to internal contention over the Edo North Senate ticket within the APC.” The meeting drew an influential array of APC stakeholders, including the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh; former Minister of Budget and National Planning, Prince Clement Agba; party elder Chief Francis Alimikhena; South-South political strategist Dr Blessing Agbomhere; Hon.
Dekeri Anamero; Chief Abu; Chief Ohimai; and Ernest Umakhihe, among others. During the meeting, Engr. Momoh raised the pivotal question about Oshiomhole’s return bid, prompting what the statement described as “an instant and deafening, thunderous and unanimous chorus of approval that left no room for doubt.
” In a symbolic declaration of unity and political resolve, the caucus leaders affirmed: “There is no vacancy in the Edo North Senate seat.” This unified endorsement is viewed as a calculated effort to ensure continuity and sustained representation of Edo North in the national legislative process. Senator Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State and past National Chairman of the APC, is widely regarded for his outspoken advocacy and influential role within the Senate.
“Senator Oshiomhole has demonstrated unflinching commitment to Edo North and national development. This endorsement is a reaffirmation of our trust in his leadership,” remarked one senior party chieftain. Earlier in the day, party leaders had convened with Governor Okpebholo for a comprehensive security summit that addressed a surge in criminal incidents across Etsako, Owan, and Akoko-Edo.
The discussions produced a detailed roadmap aimed at improving regional security through enhanced surveillance, community-based policing, and improved inter-agency coordination. Governor Okpebholo assured participants of prompt action, saying: “We must secure our homes before we can talk about progress.”.
