With temperatures soaring and no relief in sight, Lahore and other parts of Punjab are grappling with an intense heatwave, prompting the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to issue a comprehensive advisory to safeguard citizens from the sweltering conditions. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Lahore recorded a minimum temperature of 23°C on Friday, with maximum temperatures expected to climb to 40°C. Meteorologists have ruled out the possibility of rain for the next two to three days, forecasting continued hot and dry conditions across the region.
The unrelenting heat has driven many residents indoors, causing a sharp rise in the usage of air coolers and air conditioners in both homes and workplaces. In response, the PDMA has directed the Local Government and Community Development Department to take immediate action. The advisory mandates the establishment of hydration points and water supply facilities at markets, bus stops, and places of worship.
Functional public toilets and hand pumps are to be ensured, while metropolitan corporations, municipal committees, and municipal corporations must remain fully engaged in heatwave management efforts.
