The Verified Identification of the suspect, measured to be 31 years old from Torrance, California, identifies a person as Cole Tomas Allen, the alleged shooter who was arrested after an incident at the Washington Hilton Hotel during The White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night.

After being detained at the scene by security personnel, Mr. Allen told law enforcement officers that he had intended to shoot members of the present administration, which includes individuals in the presidential cabinet. Acting United States Attorney General Todd Blanch confirmed in an interview on Sunday that preliminary reports indicate the intended targets were likely to include members of the cabinet and potentially the President of the United States.

What Happened At The Scene
Initial eyewitness accounts estimate between 5 and 8 gunshots were discharged at the location where the incident occurred. Security and police officers who were working at the hotel engaged the suspect. The suspect was not hit by gunfire during the shoot-out; he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Authorities stated that Mr. Allen was a guest in the hotel and assembled his firearm inside of the building. Allen was armed with both a shotgun and a handgun along with numerous knives. According to Jeffery Carroll, the acting Chief of Police in Washington D.C., stated that Mr. Allen was acting alone. Mr. Blanch also revealed that Mr. Allen traveled from Los Angeles to Chicago via train and arrived in Washington D.C. by train and "barely" crossed the perimeter of the hotel before being stopped.

Background of Mr. Allen
A written statement believed to be related to Mr. Allen said that he would have targeted government officials in the highest and lowest positions of the present administration, but he would only have attempted to injure non-public or hotel staff if it became necessary. Reports state that these writings were sent to family members prior to the act of violence. According to Mr. Allen's profile on various professional networking sites, he is an engineer, game developer, and teacher; he studied mechanical engineering at Caltech and obtained a master's degree in Computer Science at California State University Dominguez Hills in May 2025. Mr. Allen has been employed as a part-time tutor since 2020 and received an award as instructor of the month in December 2024 from the company that employs the tutoring company he teaches for.

In addition to his tutoring career, he has developed, published, and marketed a video game called "Bohrdom." Voter registration records do not indicate a party preference; however, a recent federal inquiry revealed Mr. Allen made a $25 contribution to a Democratic Party fundraiser for the presidential election campaign during the month of October 2024. Mr. Allen is now charged with two counts of Violent Crime, Firearm Usage, and Assaulting Federal Agent with a Dangerous Weapon.
