The quake was felt in all of Lima’s districts, the Geophysical Institute of Peru said. One person was killed and five were injured from the quake, according to official reports. The victim, a 36-year-old man, was hit in northern Lima when the wall on the fourth floor of a construction site crumbled as he waited outside his car for a passenger.

The earthquake also resulted in physical destruction in some regions. Roads and schools sustained structural damage, while falling debris destroyed cars and homes. Huge billboards also fell in the affected areas.
As of the Emergency Operations Center, five people are wounded and receiving treatment at hospitals. President Dina Boluarte was travelling to Callao to monitor the situation and help provide assistance to those affected by the quake, in the wake of the quake.
Quake Disrupts Public Life
The shaking stopped events in progress, interrupted normal activities. When the shaking started, a pro football game at Lima’s Alberto Gallardo Stadium was interrupted for a moment. A mass at the cathedral in Lima was also derailed as panicking attendees ran out.

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck off the central coast of Peru on Sunday morning, jolting the capital city Lima and the neighboring port city of Callao. The quake was at 11:35 a.m. local time in the Pacific Ocean, and the epicenter was 23 kilometers southwest of Callao, a short distance west of Lima.
