Russian Strikes Kill 13 Across Ukraine

Fresh attacks from the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine have left at least 13 dead after a series of previous drone and missile strikes. Overnight, cities across Ukraine were hit by simultaneous bombardments, including the capital City of Kyiv, highlighting the fragile nature and state of conflict despite both sides agreeing to a ceasefire.

Kyiv experienced the most casualties, with five people killed, including a 12-year-old boy. Emergency services reported a collapsed building from the bombing in the Podilsky region. A mother and child were rescued from the rubble, but there were many injuries, including four emergency medical workers from repeated bombardments.

Dnipro city in the southeastern region of Ukraine was bombed during the continued air strikes, killing two and injuring at least ten. Pictures of the aftermath of the bombings showed buildings ablaze. Missiles and drone attacks in the southern port city of Odesa resulted in 6 fatalities.

Kharkiv province suffered injuries from a drone strike, injuring 2 civilians: one male, 77 years of age, and the other male, 66 years of age.

The ongoing violence has extended beyond Ukraine into Russia as a result of drone attacks. A 5-year-old child and a 14-year-old child were killed by a drone strike from Ukraine, according to local authorities in the southern region of Russia, Krasnodar Krai. It continues to support the notion that this is a borderless conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Yesterday's attacks followed a ceasefire tied to the Orthodox Christian Easter; both sides have issued accusations against one another for both triggering and declining violation of the ceasefire. The ceasefire raised questions about the effectiveness of temporary pauses of fighting, as the potential for continued long-term strategic enjoyment of fighting is being raised.

This war has now entered its fifth year, with many attempts toward ratified negotiations to reach a compromise. The United States has been a mediator, and while its attempts to bring both sides together appear to have lessened as those motivated by many of the new World conflicts, the number of continued ceasefire attempts and their effectiveness have resulted in ongoing cessation of hostilities between both belligerents.

Ukraine continues to call for a complete and stable, even if temporary, ceasefire as a requirement of beginning true peace negotiations. Russia has rebutted the request due to Russia holding the requirements of a comprehensive, overarching agreement that should be established before starting its negotiation, which leads to continual non-agreements and distrust resulting from each belligerent's position on the terms of a peace agreement.

As numerous attacks continue to be executed on several fronts through many regions, the likelihood of any resolution of the conflict in the near future is questionable.
