An Air India flight traveling to Delhi from Phuket, Thailand, made an emergency landing soon after takeoff on Friday after it received a bomb threat. The flight AI 379 landed safely back at the airport and 156 passengers disembarked safely from the aircraft.

Officials at the airports were forced to activate the Airport Contingency Plan (ACP) and conduct thorough security checks. After searching the plane, Thai police said no explosives had been discovered on the plane. It was established that the bomb threat was a hoax.

Passenger Interrogated Well Embassy Keeping Out Of Trouble
A passenger who raised the alarm has been detained by Thai authorities and is being interrogated. The Indian Embassy in Bangkok said it is coordinating with Thai authorities and closely watching the situation for the safety of all Indians involved.

The mishap came on the heels of the crash of an Air India aircraft in Ahmedabad which left 265 dead and has added to fears over safety of flights.

Increase in Billet from Indian Airlines
The fresh incident is among several alarming cases of false bomb threats made to Indian airlines. Just in 2024, in the first ten months of the year, almost 1,000 such hoax messages and calls have been reported, nearly ten times more than in 2023. Officials are still trying to encourage people to be watchful but at the same time to be stern with those threatening a report, upholding them, if such reports are proven false.
