What should have been a joyous wedding celebration in the peaceful French village of Goult transformed into a scene of horror on Sunday morning, as masked gunmen sprayed bullets, killing a bride who was only 27. The groom and a 13-year-old child were also seriously injured, and one suspected attacker was killed, according to the news agency. This set off a huge manhunt in search of other suspects who fled the scene.

Deadly Strike on Wedding Night
The couple had just left the village hall at around 04:30 local time when they were shot. The attackers came by car and shot the bride dead and wounded others, according to the county prosecutor. One of the attackers was killed, possibly in a shootout. The groom, 25, along with a teenager are still in critical condition. One woman suffered minor injuries as well.

There were 28 people in the hall at the time, according to police. The site had already been reserved by non-village residents in March. Murder and attempted murder An investigation has been opened for murder and attempted murder, although French media reports have suggested the violence may have been the result of drug-related feuds.

Shock in the Community
The attack has "traumatized" the village of Goult, near Avignon in Southeastern France. Mayor Didier Perello has condemned the incident, saying it follows on from the violence witnessed in surrounding towns. "An earnest attack of this type established itself more than a century ago," said local restaurant owner Guillaume Molinas who feared the attack might affect the image of the village.

Dozens of officers and helicopter surveillance are being used in the manhunt for the other suspects. Authorities are still working to determine what prompted the shooting as the community grapples with the massive loss.
