A nine-year-old child has been confirmed as the youngest of 79 people who were injured when a car ploughed into crowds during Liverpool's victory parade, Merseyside Police said.

Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder
The 53-year-old man, from West Derby, was detained on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving and drug driving. He is in custody as police investigate the matter. The authorities must decide by Thursday evening whether to hold the suspect for further questioning.

The crash happened on Water Street, where it was said that a man drove a car into a crowd of fans revelling in the win by Liverpool. The victims are ages 9 to 78, and seven people remained hospitalized in stable condition on Wednesday.

How the Incident Unfolded
Police said the vehicle was believed to have followed an ambulance that was en route to another medical emergency involving a patient suffering a heart attack. A brief road block on the street that leads to Water Street — Dale Street — was moved in order to make way for the ambulance and in doing so the vehicle carrying the suspect was able to gain access into the malled off area.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police confirmed there had been a partial road closure on Dale Street between North John Street and Exchange Street at the time of the incident.

The investigations are ongoing, and new information will be provided when it becomes available.
