The remark indicates Trump's desire to intervene in the war between Russia and Ukraine in the same way he has previously taken credit for a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.
Plans to Meet Zelenskyy at NATO Summit
Trump responded with a, "Yeah, probably I'll see him," when asked whether he would be visiting Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the next NATO Summit that will be held in the Netherlands. He added, "I am going to meet him and say, 'How you doing?' and added, "He's in a hell of a bind. Should've never been there," he added of the continuing war.
Trump said he hoped to accomplish peace between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing the cost of the war. "Six thousand soldiers died last week," he added with a sense of urgency.
Talks Grind to Halt, Tensions Climb
Discussions between Ukraine and Russia resumed in Istanbul on May 16 and June 2 after a hiatus of more than three years. The meetings led to exchanges of prisoners and the return of bodies of soldiers but did not produce a breakthrough to a long-term cease-fire. Ukraine is still pressing for a cease-fire backed by Western allies, while Russia is insisting on a more comprehensive settlement that includes territorial concessions that Ukraine finds unacceptable.
The fighting has, meanwhile, only grown. Russia flew some of the most intense air strikes yet recently, and on June 1, Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles conducted significant attacks on Russian airfields and nuclear-capable bombers. Revolution brings a complex case, one that is far from peaceful despite renewed conversation.

I said to them, `No, I don't require assistance with Iran. I need help with you.' "
