Court documents describe disturbing patterns of punishment, including being punched, kicked, dragged by the hair and struck with a wooden spoon. Security cameras had allegedly caught Jamie hitting the girl and bashing her into solid objects. The child also became unconscious on one or more occasions.
Targeted Harassment Justified with "Eating Habits"
The violence was frequently triggered by basic acts such as crying or taking too long to eat. When the girl kept food in her mouth, Jamie would fly into a rage, according to a foster child, who added, "It was terrifying." Jamie supposedly vented in messages to a friend, referring to the child as a "brat" and lamenting the decision to foster her.
The couple brought the girl to a hospital in March, saying she had fallen downstairs. However medical and investigative evidence did not support this account. Jamie later blamed the injuries on "self-harming behaviour," an assertion that proved unfounded, investigators said.
Other Kids Cite Patterns of Abuse
Jamie was said to be the "meanest one" by the other foster children in the home, and one of them told her, "You need to be careful with my mom." 'He wasn't as brutal as Sarah, but Raymond would join in – it is believed he kicked and hit the girl.
Jamie Johnson and Raymond Johnson were both arrested and are expected to have a preliminary hearing in court on July 24.
