Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson's Ex-Husband, Dies at 48

Longtime music talent manager and former husband of singer Kelly Clarkson, Brandon Blackstock, has died at the age of 48 after a three-year battle with cancer. A rep for the Blackstock family confirmed in a statement on Thursday that he died surrounded by his family.

 

"Late with much sadness, we are sharing this news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," the statement started. Brandon fought cancer for over three years.

He died peacefully surrounded by family." The family has also asked for privacy while stating that it is very grateful for all the love being received.

Clarkson to stop doing Vegas shows in order to spend more time with kids.

The news of Blackstock's death came only days after Kelly Clarkson announced a hiatus from her Las Vegas residency concert series to be at home with her children during their father's illness.

She also thanked cheekbone-loving stans who bought tickets to her canceled concerts for their understanding and compassion.

Clarkson and Blackstock have two kids together, daughter River and son Remington.

A Musical and Entertaining Life
Blackstock came from music royalty. His father was Narvel Blackstock, who ran the Nashville-based Starstruck management company, and his stepmom is country star Reba McEntire.

Reba married Narvel in 1989 and played a big role in raising Brandon. Broken Road Pictures Fans were able to see McEntire and the reality star's son grow up on both of their TV shows.

After his parents' line of work, Brandon also stepped into talent management and managed a bunch of huge clients like Blake Shelton and Carly Pearce.

He met Clarkson in the music world as well. They initially met at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006 before reuniting at the 2012 Super Bowl, where Clarkson sang the national anthem and Shelton did "America the Beautiful.

They wed in 2013, and Blackstock would go on to become Clarkson's manager and a producer on her Emmy-winning daytime talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Divorce and Continued Support
In 2020, after seven years of marriage, Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock, citing "irreconcilable differences."

Clarkson and Blackstock's divorce was officially finalized in 2022, with Clarkson ordered to pay a sum of $1.3 million in one lump sum to Blackstock and monthly spousal support and child support requirements.

Despite their complicated separation, both families were supportive in public. Last year, McEntire told Entertainment Tonight that she was "praying" for both Clarkson and Blackstock following their split. She said in 2021, before adding "So if you think of it, say a prayer."

Blackstock, a music producer and brother of singer Kelly Clarkson, is survived by his two children and extended family.
