Clark is seen in that scene in Season 3, Episode 9 of the show, titled Present Tense, in which Carrie and her friends gather at a gloomy bar following a particularly hard moment with Aidan Shaw.
Clark, a "superfan" of the Sex and the City universe, Plath reported, is more than just another character in the crowd. His spirited act quickly gained attention in a viral Instagram clip that soon got more than 20,000 likes.
The video it was shared in, which showed him energetically chattering and moving directly in the background of the clip, was not-so-subtly captioned "The Meryl Streep of background actors steps into her light." Even HBO Max's verified social media account joined the chorus, with one tweet reading.
Speaking in an interview, Clark said he was filmed in the scene a year ago, and was happy for even the chance to work on a show he'd admired from afar for a long time. "It's always a dream," he said.
"In my own (perhaps delusional) mind, I'm right there with them because these characters have meant so, so much to me."
The actors had also been allowed to talk and ad-lib during the shoot, because voiceover would be substituting their audio tracks later. One moment that caught the eye — and ear — of viewers was Clark telling another extra, "You're bad! You're so bad!" It was all part of the scene's ambience, intercut further with Sarah Jessica Parker's voiceover and Taylor Swift's mawkish ballad How Did It End?
Clark, who is also a real estate agent, has experience with the Sex and the City world. He has had guest stints on other episodes of And Just Like That…, and even had a part in Sex and the City 2. "I've lived with the characters so long that they're kind of like family to me," he said, adding that his dogs were called Bradshaw and Samantha Jones.
Fans on the internet have already begun devising potential spinoffs and storylines for him — some even involving the realtor character Seema Patel, played by Sarita Choudhury. "Perhaps we have a falling out, but the girls take my side," Clark quipped, primed for his TV moment.
In the meantime, he'll still watch the series from home — but with a Cosmopolitan and his dog at his side, doing his own kind of New York City dreaming.
