Ukrainian officials arrested a suspect in the murder of Andriy Parubiy, a well-known, 54-year-old politician. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the arrest on Friday in the Khmelnytskyi region. Parubiy was shot and killed on Saturday in the west of the country in the city of Lviv by an individual disguised as a courier which led to a massive police manhunt.

According to Interior Minister Igor Klymenko the attack was "well prepared." The assassin studied the travel and escape of Parubiy. He and his team are working to ascertain the full details of the murder.

Attack and Investigation
Video evidence which police have not verified appears to show a disguised courier walking up to Parubiy before opening fire. According to police in Lviv, the shooter fired approximately eight shots. The investigation has revealed an assassin disguised as a Glovo courier (a food delivery service). Glovo said that they are shocked to learn of the murder and will be working with authorities.
Zelensky said he had spoken to chief prosecutor Ruslan Kravenchenko and said the suspect had provided a very short "confession." He thanked law enforcement and prosecutors for their work and said there are still urgent lines of investigation.

Political Career and Legacy
Andriy Parubiy is credited internationally with the Euromaidan protests of 2013-14, during which he organized "self-defence" units to protect the protesters who were calling for integration with the EU, which ultimately resulted in the ousting of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych in 2014. He became the speaker of Ukraine's Parliament in April 2016 and held the position until August 2019.

His death has shocked Ukraine and has resulted in the loss of an important person who was part of a significant campaign for Ukraine to look to Europe and away from Russia.
