The award comes from 2025 King's New Year Honours list, which honours those who have made a major contribution to British life in a wide range of sectors. Aged 55, Nair is celebrated around the world for his progressive, people-centric leadership. Chanel lauded her leadership in raising brand excellence, improving client experiences and furthering sustainability goals.
Career Highs and Lows
Nair joined Chanel from Unilever where she was Chief Human Resources Officer prior to being appointed Chanel's Global CEO in 2022. Her appointment was historic in that she became one of the relatively few women of Indian heritage to lead a major global luxury brand. She also was included in the Fortune India's Most Powerful Women list 2025.
Recognition In gratefully receiving the CBE, Nair commented: "I am truly humbled by the extraordinary recognition that this honour brings and I thank and share this honour with all my protagonists of the past 35 years on six continents. I am so immensely grateful to my family and the generosity of Unilever and Chanel. I accept it on behalf of my team at Chanel and draw inspiration to continue leading with integrity and impact."

Leena Nair, the British-Indian CEO of luxury fashion house Chanel, has been granted the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Prince William made the presentation at Windsor Castle, acknowledging her outstanding products and services, business, sustainability and human-centred leadership.
